Tarawera.

I have been learning to infer. Hi guys, today I have done some work around the book Tarawera.
First we had to write our answers for the questions we had,
Next we wrote the words that were hard for us to read.
Then we wrote sentences that included our hard words,
after that we wrote facts about Mount Tarawera that was 125 words long.
Then write our sources.
The thing I found hard was answering the questions.
My next step is to try and know all of the hard and easy words in my text.

1.    Why was it a surprise when Mount Tarawera erupted?

          Because they believe that Mount Tarawera was extinct.

   

     2. Was Te Wairoa a well known village before the eruption? Yes How do I know? In the text it talks about the fame pink and white terraces.

    3. What happened to the three children who were with Mrs Hazard? They died except for Mrs Hazard.

   4. Was the village of Te Wairoa rebuilt? No How do you know that? It is the remnants of this village that the tourists of today came to see.

The people of Te Waiora were Poignant because of the volcanic eruption.

Some waters of N.Z are very Torrent such as The Mount Ruapehu river and Lake Taupo.

Did you know that The eruption lasted six hours and caused massive destruction. It destroyed several villages, along with the famous silica hot springs known as the Pink and White Terraces. Approximately 120 people, nearly all Māori, lost their lives.

In the early hours of 10 June, people awoke to earthquakes, lightning, fountains of molten rock, and columns of smoke and ash up to 10 km high. People as far away as Blenheim heard the eruption. Some thought it was an attack by a Russian warship. A 17-km-long rift split Mt Tarawera and extended as far south as Waimangu. The eruption covered land with millions of tonnes of ash and debris, transformed lakes, and flattened bush.

Also  Te Wairoa, known as The Buried Village, later became a tourist attraction.

My Book Review

                                     Ika Moana.    29-5-2017

I have been reading Ika Moana. It is mostly about in the olden days when many people hunted Sperm whales for their oil in their blubber. I find it very interesting because what is so important about Sperm Whales oil? Oh back to the book review, So you do know that Sperm Whales can be located because they blow mist out of their blow hole. Did you know that Sperm whales and many more whales can hold their breath up to 40-50 minutes and they can dive up to 2 kilometres deep to look for squid to much on. Plus they also eat 1 tone of squid everyday.

I think the author's purpose of this story was so people stopped hunting Sperm whales for their oil and to give people ideas and information about Sperm whales. Thanks for listening to my book review.

My Peach, I meant my Speech. Enjoy

This week we have been learning how to write and present a speech. My speech is about my future.
We also have been learning how to read with fluency and expression. To be successful I will:

• Speak clearly and loudly
• Pause at full stops and commas
• Change the speed and sound of my voice
• I won’t rush my reading

I think I was able to speak clearly and loudly.

I was able to pause at full stops and capital letters.

I I wasn't rushing my reading.

But I need to work on changing the tone of my voice.

 
 

Reading task.

We are learning to expand our reading vocabulary by working with a buddy to find word meanings

Have you ever learnt about eels bike cycle I mean life cycle.

I am learning to summarise a book that we have been learning.

My next step is to find out all of the main ideas. There was a big main idea that I missed and I know what it is now.

Pacific Paradise.

Last night I read Pacific Paradise by Mary Campbell. It was mostly about eels life cycle. During the summer their bodies change,Their eye’s enlarge,their head becomes flatter and more slender & their tummy turns gold. They get ready for the migration to the sea. When they get there they spawn which means they get ready to have babies.

The part that surprised me was the part when it said some can be over 100 years old. Because I thought they only go up to 50 years old. Have you been reading cool books?

I was reading,

Last week I was reading Rascal and Little Flora.

Illustrated by bob Lea. Written by Paul Jennings.

Rascal liked little Flora. This is mostly about  Rascal trying to do anything to get little Flora’s attention. First Rascal put his face in the dinosaur bones, but Rascal didn’t get little Flora’s attention. The next day Sniff Rascal’s friend Love Flora to, He gave her some good rubbish.

My favorite part in the story was Win Rascal took the big bone from the dinosaur head. The piece that surprised me was Rascal got away with Taking the dinosaur bone and replacing it with A broom.
