Thursday 15th September 2016.
Kapa haka.
It was an exciting and a spectacular day for me and my class, we were finally performing at Northland College, “YAY” we all chanted, but some of the school were going to Dargaville to represent our school because they came in the top twenty in Ohaeawai.
“Breath in breath out I said to myself” nervous nervous nervous I was, my knees felt like jelly, my stomach was full of butterflies when the curtain pulled open. “Homai te paki paki for Tautoro school” said Whaea Chicky, everyone clapped, yelled, whistled and screamed. After a while I was in the zone, I wasn’t shy and everyone around me were singing loud and it sounded amazing.
“Kia Rere Tika ai” said Harmony and Gerry in a brave and strong voice, we all sang in a courageous way and followed Harmony’s and Gerry’s commands. We even had to lean forward and backwards well singing, swinging and hitting our poi. The hardest part was hitting our poi and catching it. It was tiring but fun at the same time. At the end everyone got a bit emotional because our amazing Kuia Nana Winnie gave us an amazing 'karanga' from the crowd that blew us all away and the humongous crowd as well.
I will always remember that day because it was awesome and it was like the fifth time I’ve performed on that stage since I have been here at Tautoro School.
Tini ataahua recount Tehana, I hope you feel proud of this recount. It is moment in time that you will have forever. You did well to focus most of your detail around two events. Great choice of language and excellent reflection at the end!
