Spelling results

Today I had my spelling test and I got 100%. I am proud of myself. The reason I think I got 100% is because I practiced my spelling words every night of this week. Throughout the week, I got my family to test me and I also got 100% during those tests.

Percent Benchmarks

We are learning to find a percent of a whole number using a benchmark like 10%This morning I have been working on a D.L.O of myself explaining what I have done for maths this week so far. I also explained one of the equations that I had to solve during my maths lesson. Here is my D.L.O and screencastify below. For my D.L.O I  used google draw because I find it easy to work with. I hope you enjoy!

Punctuation practice

During the start of this week, Our writing group has been working on a task called punctuation practice. The objective of this task was to rewrite a piece of writing or the intel of a book filled with punctuation mistakes. This task was pretty easy and today our book's name was Jack In The Beanstalk. This story was filled with all different sorts of mistakes and I managed to find most of them! Whaea Gaylene explained that whoever found the most punctuation mistakes got 100 points for our set up group points system.

P.e

The year 7 & 8's have a soccer tournament coming up! Us, as the year seven and eight students, we have only just found out that our tournament is in two more weeks! I am pretty excited for this soccer tournament because this will be the first time that the year seven and eight's have entered in the soccer tournament instead of Rippa Rugby. The reason Matt choose Soccer for our sport was because there will be many more Rippa Rugby tournaments throughout the year.

Matariki

This week we have been learning about many different facts of Matariki. Whaea Angela, showed us a youtube video. There was a lady on there that read the story The Seven Stars Of Matariki. After we listen to the story being read, we had to create a powerpoint and retell the story as similar as we could. I think that my work partner (Sheeandra) and I achieved this task. We hope you enjoy!

Manu korero Recount

Last Week wednesday, Thursday and Friday the year eights went to Northland college for the yearly Manu Korero competition. It was a very inspirational event and it was very very sensibly organised by the Northland college students and the Staff. We had to write a recount about our experience at the Manu Korero competition and how we felt during the powhiri. I was exceedingly nervous during the powhiri but I overcome that as the days flew by. Here is my recount below including some pictures of our magnificent experience, I hope you enjoy!
                     The Powhiri
Anxiety filled the air as we continuously waited
patiently for the Manuhiri to arrive. It was a horrible
rainy day last week on Wednesday, when the manuhiri
did eventually arrive, a large raised voice sprung out of
nowhere and supported by the rest of the crowd, we
upraised the voice of one and converted it into many,
this was when the haka powhiri began. I’ve got to admit it,
the manuhiri crowd was not small at all. By the time the whole group of manuhiri confirmed their seating areas,
the ground was so filthy from the mud and water combined.
I was exceedingly nervous, we were in the corner right
next to the stage were we could be clearly spotted without
a doubt. It didn’t really matter because we very much so
stood out. One by one, the manu korero Trophies began to
fill the tables up that were close by the stage. There were
many speakers that upstood, all mostly from the manuhiri.

The powhiri went on and on and on until finally the last
speaker upstood which was Matua Beauman instructing us all to depart, there were loads of schools that part took
in the big Powhiri. Some of the schools were Kaikohe
Intermediate, Kaikohe West school, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori
O Kaikohe, Northland College, Okaihau college and Kaikohe
East school. This Haka Powhiri was a long process, we were
proud to support our school in such an exhilarating event.
We all then departed and went for lunch outside. We
targeted the red gazebo that was set up next to mr
whippy’s ice-cream parlour. Soon later, we were all called
back into the gym to receive the sequenced order of what
was going to happen next and for the rest of that day.
Without hesitation whaea Kiri, our host and her husband
called up the first speaker. Little did we know, all these
speakers had to choose a topic off of a certain list and
they had like fifteen minutes to come up with something
to say about their object. We didn’t stay for much longer
after that because it was nearly home time back at our
school. I really enjoyed that day because all the speakers
were inspiring, they had great topics and they explained
it well.

Maths

We are learning to understand how fractions, decimals and percentages are related. This was our maths task for yesterday. Here is our a success criteria:
Percentages are special fractions. It is always divided by 100. Because the denominator is always out of 100. It can be changed into a decimal. I really enjoyed this task because the strategy was very very easy to pick up but yet it was confusing at times. Here below is a snapshot of my maths worksheet. I hope you enjoy!

Weekly comment

This week on our blogging roster, it was the week for all the northland primary schools to comment on the Kaikohe west schools blog! I commented on their Manu Korero blog post because we also attended the Manu korero Powhiri, and the Manu Korero speech days. Here is a picture of my comment below. Enjoy!

Learning foot prints

W.A.L.T: Create a positive digital learning footprint. Today, Whaea Deborah visited us! We were learning about how to be cybersmart on the internet and social media sites such as instagram, facebook, messenger, twitter, snapchat. etc. Make sure you are aware of what you are sending in other words, do not send inappropriate images because it doesn't take long for these images or content to be shared all around the world or they can be easily screenshotted. The thing that I liked about this task was colour coding/highlighting parts of a text that you thought was negative, personal, or things that could be public. For negative the colour was red, for public information the colour was green and if we were unsure about a piece of the text we had to highlight it Orange. I didn't find anything challenging about this task. I really enjoyed working with Whaea Deborah this morning!
