This week we have been doing Science! We are doing an experiment. The experiments are around sugary drinks and diet drinks. Are They Harmful?Here is my Piktochart about SCIENCE!

This week we have been doing Science! We are doing an experiment. The experiments are around sugary drinks and diet drinks. Are They Harmful? We have to First put an egg into a container and and then put 200 mls of different kinds of drink in. My hypothesis (Prediction) was, I thought that the egg was going to change colour.I was correct and the E2 drink stained the outside of the egg shell. We all found that very disgusting! Here are some interesting photos of our eggs and the drinks.

1. We had seven eggs and then put one of each container.
2. Then we put a sugary drink in the container.
3. After that we got a PH strip then we immersed it in the container filled with different kinds of drinks for one to ten minutes.
4. Then we looked if it changed colour after one to ten minutes.
5. After all of that we took out the PH strip and compared it to the Ph Scale and then looked to see how acidic it was.
6. To finish off we are going to leave it for a few days.

This is my writing assessment. I have independently tried to improve my sentences. I am looking to check that they make sense.I am checking my punctuation. I am good at understanding simple,compound and complex sentences.

  Music vs Sports

I completely disagree that sports is more important than music. I believe that some people may think music is more important than sports. Well, I can’t deny it. Music is popular, but wouldn’t you want to be fit and healthy by playing sports?  I would. What do you think?

My main reason why I think sports is far more important than music is because, if you enjoy sports than wouldn’t you want to stay healthy and fit? But obviously if you like listening to music then you are going to be an unachievable blobfish and you are going to fail in life. Music is cool but wouldn’t you want to be standing on one of the first place stands holding a gold medal, making your family proud at the world wide Olympics?

Another reason why I think sports is far more important than music is because I would rather go to sports tournaments than stay at school listening to music all day because don’t you want to be active? Don't you want to stand out in this world? I would absolutely love that, Wouldn’t you? It would be nice to achieve something in life? And that something would be sports!

My last reason why sports is more important than music because whoever wants to achieve something its not going to be listening to music. It is going to be something people like to call sports! Most people think sports is magnificent. Because it is! And I assure that sports can make a difference to our lives.

To finish off and support my argument sports is important! Just get that in your brain. Music is fun and all but sports is better! If you play sports you can improve on things you have failed once in your life. For example, say that I came last in cross country. But when I began to play sports I began to move up and feel better about myself. For the last, final time sports is important!

I am learning to hold the camera in the correct place and keeping it as still as I can and the movie making process.
To be successful I had to:
First the positioning of the camera perfect.
Keep the camera as still as I can.
I think I was successful because I was able to keep the camera still.
What I found hard was getting objects to help me on getting scenes perfect and getting my camera placing correct.
Next time I will use a tripod or a proper object to keep the camera still.
I learned about green screen that if you stand too close to the green screen wall green stuff will be around you.

Wan't to listen to a story?

I am showing my reading fluency.

To be successful I will:

• Pause at commas
• Stop at full stops
• Sound natural (not like a robot)
• Adjust my reading speed when I come  to difficult words

When I listen to my reading I know that I am learning to read with expression and fluency.

I think I was successful because I was not reading like a robot and I paused at full stops and commas.

I think I was successful because I was able to make a slideshow that was simple and very easy to understand.

What I liked was learning about the 9 parts of speech. 

Have you ever worked more than 14 hours?

I have been learning to use words and phrases that enhances sadness and fear.

In class we have been learning about where our clothes are made and we had to write a story pretending that we had to work in sweatshops. It was devastating finding out that those children are having to work 14 hours of their lives, 7 days a week.

I think I was successful because I was able to use a reasonable amount of fear and sadness mood.

My next step is to try use interesting words to hook in my readers.

Here is my story.

Working at the Nike Factory.

On a muggy and still Monday morning I wearily rolled out of bed.I began to get ready for work. The moment I walked in the door, half asleep as the boss was standing there as the children were doing their work .

The boss looked at me with a stern look and shouted “You're five minutes late!” The moment a word came out of his mouth my shoulders sunk and I stood there as still as a statue “But?” “No buts” “I'm sorry” I stutted.

I walked to my work station and began to work. Five hours later the buzzer finally buzzed because it was time for lunch. We had stale yuck rice! Next to me I noticed a monstrous amount of rubbish. I could smell the rottenness of all the piled up rubbish. The next thing I knew, The buzzer Buzzed to get back to work.

I didn’t get to lay a finger on food, but I quickly shoved the whole bowl of rice in my mouth.  When I walked back into the factory the poor kids including me had to get back to work for five more hours.

I let out a big sigh and said “Could this get any worse?” Well it did, everyone could smell the putrid stench of the glue causing the kids to  get sick. One of the children told the boss that she had a sore stomach “Well harden up and get back to work now!”Our boss insisted” Are you going to be okay?” I said. “This feels like hell” I yelled.

Finally, it is 8:00 pm. I can finish work and go to sleep. I am too exhausted to work any more”I said to my friend.

We have been learning about money.

I think we done a great job on our Inquiry plan.
What I found hard about the Inquiry plan was getting all the information together and trying to put it into our own words.

Next we had to make a video about our inquiry purpose and it had to show that we could work collaboratively.

I was the recorder. It was very hard because I could not hold the phone still.
But we found easy was getting each movie scene perfect.

To be successful we had to:

We also had to explain How Short Form Division worked.
And had to atleast do three examples about short for division.

What I found hard was doing the example.
What I found Fun was learning about Short Form Division.

I think we were successful because first we were able to make a slideshow that explained how and what Short form division was.

Designed for the dump!

WALT use write cause and effect sentences.

To be successful we had to:

1. Think about an cause (event) and what happens because of it (effect)
2. Use cause and effect connectives such as because of this, as a result, as a consequence and when this happens…
3. Check that full stops are at the end of the idea (remember it will be simple, compound or complex)

I think I was successful because I was able to write a paragraph with enough information in it to hook my readers in. 

What I found easy was coming up with a Cause and Effect because we had already been learning about Cause and effect.

My topic was. How E-waste becomes ( Designed for the dump)

First of all I think that people should stop making new gadgets! Why I think this is because People are making things and the buyers and buying them and just throwing their old gadgets out. I think that that is a worldwide problem! Some people like to call that Designed for the dump, which means that people are making new gadgets that we all buy and when we break it we buy new gadgets all over again. Designed for the dump is bad. As a result it is causing environmental problems because we are shoving more and more rubbish into our landfill and 25 tons of E-Waste goes to the landfill everyday.

W.A.L.T: Use note taking skills putting others ideas into our own words.
In our class we have been learning about elements of dance. The dance element are awareness, space and time. The ideas I like dancing to are marching, gliding and doing freeze frames.

We put together a story mixed with facts but put into our own words.

E-waste is bad for the environment!

This was my question, How do electronic devices become E-Waste?

Well firstly it could become out of fashion or become obsolete (UseLess).

Also it could break. Obviously another way devices could end up in the dump is because things get upgraded! This is stuffing our landfills and dumps with E-Waste! For example, You could have your computer for about two years then it gets upgraded and you want a new one. So you go ahead and buy it and of course you have already thrown the old one out right? Don't deny it we all do it. This is so heart breaking!

Tarawera.

I have been learning to infer. Hi guys, today I have done some work around the book Tarawera.
First we had to write our answers for the questions we had,
Next we wrote the words that were hard for us to read.
Then we wrote sentences that included our hard words,
after that we wrote facts about Mount Tarawera that was 125 words long.
Then write our sources.
The thing I found hard was answering the questions.
My next step is to try and know all of the hard and easy words in my text.

1.    Why was it a surprise when Mount Tarawera erupted?

          Because they believe that Mount Tarawera was extinct.

   

     2. Was Te Wairoa a well known village before the eruption? Yes How do I know? In the text it talks about the fame pink and white terraces.

    3. What happened to the three children who were with Mrs Hazard? They died except for Mrs Hazard.

   4. Was the village of Te Wairoa rebuilt? No How do you know that? It is the remnants of this village that the tourists of today came to see.

The people of Te Waiora were Poignant because of the volcanic eruption.

Some waters of N.Z are very Torrent such as The Mount Ruapehu river and Lake Taupo.

Did you know that The eruption lasted six hours and caused massive destruction. It destroyed several villages, along with the famous silica hot springs known as the Pink and White Terraces. Approximately 120 people, nearly all Māori, lost their lives.

In the early hours of 10 June, people awoke to earthquakes, lightning, fountains of molten rock, and columns of smoke and ash up to 10 km high. People as far away as Blenheim heard the eruption. Some thought it was an attack by a Russian warship. A 17-km-long rift split Mt Tarawera and extended as far south as Waimangu. The eruption covered land with millions of tonnes of ash and debris, transformed lakes, and flattened bush.

Also  Te Wairoa, known as The Buried Village, later became a tourist attraction.

My Book Review

                                     Ika Moana.    29-5-2017

I have been reading Ika Moana. It is mostly about in the olden days when many people hunted Sperm whales for their oil in their blubber. I find it very interesting because what is so important about Sperm Whales oil? Oh back to the book review, So you do know that Sperm Whales can be located because they blow mist out of their blow hole. Did you know that Sperm whales and many more whales can hold their breath up to 40-50 minutes and they can dive up to 2 kilometres deep to look for squid to much on. Plus they also eat 1 tone of squid everyday.

I think the author's purpose of this story was so people stopped hunting Sperm whales for their oil and to give people ideas and information about Sperm whales. Thanks for listening to my book review.

To be successful I had to at least:
Write an example that was a simple, compound and complex sentence.
I also had to find out the meaning of a Simple, Compound and Complex sentence and also add what I already know about them.

This week we have been learning how to write and present a speech. My speech is about my future.
We also have been learning how to read with fluency and expression. To be successful I will:

• Speak clearly and loudly
• Pause at full stops and commas
• Change the speed and sound of my voice
• I won’t rush my reading

I think I was able to speak clearly and loudly.

I was able to pause at full stops and capital letters.

I I wasn't rushing my reading.

But I need to work on changing the tone of my voice.

I think I was successful because I was able to add talking in my story.

The Adventurous Zoo.

“Lazahris guess where we are?” said Delynah. Lazahris replied with excitement, “The zoo,the zoo!”First of all we strolled down to visit the monkeys. They were staring at me like they were going to attack me because Lazahris and I were eating bananas,so we went and had a look at the elephants. One of the elephants were having a bath in a big rock pool then it came out and put some sand on its back for sunscreen. As cool as the animals were the sun was not because it was beaming down on us like there was a sun reflector reflecting off the sun. Thats when Delynah was over just walking in the hot hot sun. It was boiling hot.

After walking like miles we finally visited the tigers. A baby was asleep next to it's mother. It was so adorable but sadly we woke it up from the flash of the camera.

We watched as the tiger growled at us through the glass.

The giraffes were fantastic, they didn't do anything but eat leaves off the trees. It was magnificent. Delynah was getting annoyed because the sun was too hot and she just wanted the day to end. But sadly it didn’t. Her shoulders dropped and she let out a big sigh. “Can we go already?” She moaned with exhaustment.

At the end of the day my favorite was the giraffes and the spider monkeys. I had a great time at the zoo.

We are learning to expand our reading vocabulary by working with a buddy to find word meanings

Who learns about plastic bags? I have been learning about plastic bags and how they are harmful to human health.

WALT use language features of persuasive writing

To be successful I will:

Use rhetorical questions to make my writing interesting
Use emotive language (words about feelings/emotions)

I think I was successful because I was able to fix up all my mistakes and I was able to use emotive words.

My next step is to be able to add a counter argument into my persuasive writing.

I learnt that a counter argument is when you think about why your reader will disagree and you give reasons to argue against with.

                                    Plastic bags.

I believe plastic bags are harming the environment. Do you think Kaikohe should become a plastic bag free town?

Have you ever wondered how many marine animals die from plastic bags each year, the answer might shock you. Marine animals get forced to live in a tragic habitat. I researched and found out that up to 100000 marine animals around the world die each year. That's atrocious! I think Kaikohe should become a plastic bag free town because Plastic bags pollute our land and water and Plastic bags are harmful to wildlife and marine life.That's just dreadful!

Furthermore plastic bags should be banned from Kaikohe because Plastic bags are harmful to human health. Did you know because of the destruction plastic bags cause other governments have banned plastic bags.

Plastic bags are not easy to recycle! Did  you know that it is good to recycle because recycling reduces the need for more landfills.I think it's good to recycle because the things we recycle people reuse it to make lots of new things. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste. Added to this solid waste material that ends up in landfills causes air pollution.

In summary I think Kaikohe should become plastic bag free because plastic bags are not easy to recycle and they just get thrown into the landfill. Whoever wants this harmful problem to stop would help the community get rid of all of these plastic bags.
